PORT-AU-PRINCE, CMC – The President of Haiti’s Presidential Transition Council (CPT), Edgard Leblanc Fils, marked the third anniversary of the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, describing the July 7 assassination as a “barbaric act carried out by Haitian and foreign mercenary commandos.”
On July 7, 2021, the 53-year-old Moise was shot dead in his private residence in the capital. His wife, Martine Marie-Étienne Moise, was also injured in the incident and had to be flown to the United States for treatment.
Several Colombian former soldiers have been arrested but have not yet been charged in the murder, while U.S. authorities have charged several Haitian nationals.
“It is with deep sadness and pain that I humbly pay tribute to the late President Jovenel Moise, who was assassinated during the night of July 6-7, 2021, in his private residence at 5, rue Pellerin, in the town of Pétion-Cille,” Le Blanc-Fiers said during a ceremony of reflection and meditation on Sunday.
The ceremony was attended by Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille and members of the government, senior officials of the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H), and the Chief of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Rameau Normil, among others.
