UNESCO’s intercultural programme is calling for young entrepreneurs in the Caribbean region in the hospitality and creative tourism sectors.
The selected young people will have the opportunity to attend the 15th World Heritage Destination World Tourism Event to be held in Genoa, Italy from September 12 to 14, 2024.
Culture and creativity are key pillars of sustainable tourism that benefit communities, preserve heritage and inspire innovation. The Intercultural Programme: Bringing Cuba, the Caribbean and the EU together through culture and creativity, implemented by UNESCO and funded by the European Union, invites young entrepreneurs from the Caribbean to showcase initiatives based on culture and creativity at the 15th World Tourism Event (WTE), the main platform for the promotion of World Heritage tourism.
In response to this call, UNESCO’s Transcultura programme will fully cover the costs of participating in the 2024 World Trade Expo, including accreditation of exhibit areas and participation in B2B seminars (45 buyers from Italy, France, Spain, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, USA and Australia) and all international mobility and accommodation costs in Genoa during the 2024 WTE.
Entrepreneurs operating creative tourism businesses in or near World Heritage sites are particularly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to businesses and entrepreneurs led by women whose initiatives aim to benefit local communities by allowing tourists to experience local culture directly from locals through active participation in arts and creative activities.
The call is open to entrepreneurs in the tourism industry, aged between 18 and 35, who must be nationals of one of the following 17 Caribbean countries with permanent residency: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, HaitiJamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 16, 2024, at 23:59 Havana time (UTC/GMT -5 hours) via the online application form: https://tinyurl.com/28aj6ndd
