HAC report submitted to the Prime Minister

Libreville, Thursday, June 27, 2024 (Gabon News) – The Transitional Prime Minister, Raymond Ndong Sima, received on Wednesday a large delegation from the High Authority for Communications (HAC), led by President Germain Ngoyo Moussavou.

During this meeting, the HAC delegation must present to the Head of Government the annual report on the agency’s activities, which, by law, must be submitted to the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament and the Minister of Communications and Media.

Apparently, the Prime Minister took the time to listen to his host’s speech and then gave him some advice, while reminding him to always tell communicators the urgency of respecting ethical and professional behavior in the handling of information in Gabon. “Freedom of the press in the Republic of Gabon is a constitutional right and I call on every press manager to exercise this right with full responsibility,” said Raymond Ndong Sima.

Furthermore, the HAC President assured the Head of Government that he will ensure that the Gabonese media will become a reference in terms of respect for professional standards. “I will do everything possible to ensure that the Gabonese media ecosystem does not become a breeding ground for liberal and inhumane media, especially at a time when the country is committed to reconciliation and national unity,” assured Germain Ngoyo Moussavou.

Taking all this into consideration, this report summarizes the various activities carried out by the agency in 2023 and takes the opportunity to discuss with the heads of government the difficulties encountered on a daily basis, especially the small size of the office, the operating budget, the lack of materials, etc.

Meanwhile, everyone welcomed the remarkable leap made by Gabon in the report published by the non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders on May 3 to celebrate World Human Rights Day 2024, which resulted in a 30% increase in attention. Gabon gained 6 points and moved up to 56th place in the world.

Please note that this meeting between the Office of the High Authority of Communications and the Prime Minister is part of the application of Article 33 relating to the reorganization of the HAC.
