A six-year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital after she was shot in the head while sleeping in Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara Province, Guyana.
The incident occurred between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
Investigation ongoing
Authorities conducted numerous interviews and forensic tests following the shooting.
Both of the victim’s parents were tested for gunshot residue, and while several people have been interviewed, none have provided information relevant to the case.
Reports indicate that witnesses did not hear any gunfire at the time of the incident.

Police investigating found a bullet hole near the child’s bed, indicating the shooting came from outside the home.
Observation of the scene revealed red stains on the bed, believed to be blood, but no spent shell casings were found in or around the house.
The lack of evidence makes it difficult to understand the sequence of events that led to this horrific act.

Family horror night
The child’s mother told of the horrific discovery she made in the early hours of Sunday morning.
After hearing her daughter’s moans, she discovered that the little girl’s head and clothes were soaked with a blood-like substance.
The parents reportedly immediately rushed their daughter to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
