The President of Guinea-Bissau, His Excellency Umaro Sissoco Embalo, on Friday expressed his condolences to the President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, on the loss of the life of the late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others in the tragic plane crash that occurred on June 10 in Mzimba Chikangawa Forest.

Earlier in the day, President Embalo arrived in Lilongwe by plane for a one-day official visit and held closed-door talks with President Chakwera directly at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
Foreign Minister Nancy Tembo said the meeting between the two leaders provided an opportunity for the visiting leader to express his sympathy on behalf of the people of Guinea-Bissau to President Chakwera and Malawi over the tragic events of 10 June.
Since the plane crash, several countries have sent missions to express condolences to Malawi from funeral sites and other diplomatic channels.
The two leaders also used the meeting to discuss other issues of common concern in order to consolidate bilateral relations and realize the development aspirations of the two peoples.
