Guangzhou City announced Port expansion plan By 2026, Shenzhen Port will handle 700 million tons of cargo and 27 million standard containers annually. The three-year plan will “invest more than 15 billion yuan in ports and shipping.”
The port is one of the largest ports in China, with cargo throughput reaching 675 million tons and container throughput reaching 25.41 million TEUs in 2023. according to Guangzhou Port Authority ranked fifth and sixth in the world in these two categories respectively last year.
The Port Authority said that this will be Guangzhou’s fourth three-year action plan to promote the “continuous improvement of the international shipping hub” launched in 2015.

The project will also increase freight volumes between rail and seaports, as well as the number of vehicles using the port. Drones and smart technologies will play an increasingly important role in port logistics,
The Port Authority said the plan will “explore new models and new business forms of port and shipping economy, comprehensively improve the level of port intelligence, and accelerate the greening process of ports and shipping.”
At the World Bank Container Port Performance Index 2023Guangzhou Port ranks eighth in the global efficiency ranking.
