Toronto police are searching for a woman wanted in connection with a grandparent scam.
Police said on May 28, the victim received a call from someone posing as his grandson, informing them that he had been arrested.
The fake grandson then handed the phone to another person posing as a police officer, who told the victim they needed a bank card to show to a judge, police said.
A woman then went to the victims’ homes and allegedly took their bank cards and withdrew funds.
On Friday, police A photo of the suspect was released. The man, believed to be 30, was last seen wearing a white shirt, knitted sleeves and hooded denim jacket and a silver cross necklace.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-1200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or www.222tips.com.
Police would like to remind the public that they would never go to anyone’s address in full or partial uniform to collect cash or bank details.
They also said police officers and other law enforcement officials would never contact family members to ask for bail or send someone to collect money.
Police advise the public not to confirm any personal information over the phone and to call relevant departments or other family members to verify information if they receive suspicious calls.
