Opera and pop music star-studded - 16th Ggantija opens this monthThe annual summer event organised by the Gozo Youth Orchestra within the Gozo Youth Wind and Orchestra will kick off later this month with the 16th edition of Opera and Popular Music Under the Stars.

This year’s concert will feature guest singer Pamela Cibrano (New York), an original soprano who has performed in the previous 12 annual concerts. She will perform alongside current resident soprano Nicola Said – Soprano (Malta/UK) and guest soprano Francesca Power – Soprano (UK).

Resident singers bass Noel Galea (Gozo, Malta), pop tenor Ludwig Galea (Malta) and pop singer Sarah Bonnici (Gozo, Malta) and emerging musical theatre singer Tara Azar (UK) will join forces to present a spectacular evening in the unique setting of Ggantija.

The first part of the concert consisted of arias, duets and orchestral excerpts from the opera world, while the second part turned to a more relaxed style of repertoire, covering musicals, soundtracks and popular music.

The Gozo Youth Orchestra will be led by its founder and music director, Dr Joseph Grech.

The musical event will take place at the Ggantija Archaeological Park on Monday, July 29, at 8:30 pm.

Since its inception in 2002, the Gozo Youth Wind Band and Orchestra has been comprised of two groups of young and promising musicians, providing the public with a wide range of repertoire for all ages to enjoy.

These young musicians come from all over Gozo (and have skilled guest musicians including foreign residents living on the island) and meet regularly to prepare to perform a wide range of musical genres at various high-level events held from time to time in Gozo and Malta.

As in previous years, the event is held in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy in Malta and sponsored by the U.S. Ambassador to Malta, Ms. Constance Milstein. Space is limited (first come, first served) and special logistical arrangements are in place to preserve this location.
