Today is World Blood Donor Day and the National Blood Transfusion Service is calling on donors to take part in the next blood drive scheduled for Sunday in Gozo.

World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) aims to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving blood donations.

Tomorrow, there is a Celebrating Mass It is being held at Ta’ Pinu.

Every blood donation helps save three lives. The National Blood Transfusion Service says less than 5% of the eligible population take the time to donate blood – just 3 in 100 people. “Which proportion are you in?”

NBTS stressed, “We need your help to ensure hospitals have adequate blood inventory to meet the needs of patients in need.”

The service said it therefore continues to encourage Gozo people to continue to attend donation drives to help patients in need get the blood they need in a timely manner.

The next meeting in Gozo will be held on Sunday 16 June8 a.m. to 1 p.m.at the Xewkija Community Clinic.

“As always, we thank you very much for your cooperation and generosity,” the service said.

The centre is located at the Xewkija Community Clinic in Triq tall-Hamrija, between the primary school and the Bocci Club.

Important Notes From the National Blood Transfusion Service

• Bring your Maltese ID card, driving license or passport.

• Drink some water and eat a snack before donating.

• Wear loose clothing/sleeves.
