The Union of Professional Educators (UPE) said it had informed authorities at state and church schools that many teachers had reported a significant rise in temperatures in classrooms and teaching workplaces.
The UPE said in a statement on Wednesday that it “strongly advises authorities to ensure that classrooms and workplaces for all educators are adequately ventilated, insulated and equipped with functional cooling equipment.”
The union also said that “disappointingly, the majority of schools in Malta and Gozo do not have air conditioning, and therefore educators are one of the very few civil service professions that do not have adequate working conditions.”
The alliance concluded by saying it will closely monitor the situation in the coming days and issue directives on the issue if necessary to ensure that its members’ concerns are heard.”
