In his budget speech for the next financial year in Parliament, the Minister of Finance, the Honourable Tiofilusi Tiueti, outlined initiatives to provide the health sector with a total of $78.9 million, aimed at improving the quality and affordability of healthcare.
The investments focus on improving the safety and resilience of health infrastructure. These include projects such as the Vava’u Hospital and the Waini Health Centre Dialysis Unit.
The funds will also be used to address Tonga’s non-communicable disease crisis.
The budget allocates funds to increase enrollment at the Queen Salot School of Nursing and strengthen the medical workforce. The e-health project will provide training for medical staff on e-government systems.
The continuation of the school breakfast program emphasizes the focus on preventive measures and long-term health.
These initiatives fall under Government Priority 5: Improving access to quality and affordable healthcare.
