Last Sunday, the Radovljica Tourism Association organized the meeting of cities on the Venus Path for the 29th consecutive time, which included a market of Slovenian domestic products and handicrafts, workshops and medieval street games.

The “Urban Gathering on the Way of Venus” in Radovljica is one of three events organized by Obinna Radovljica in the 1990s in Kamen Castle, Pustegrad and Radovljica with the aim of preserving the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Middle Ages and enriching the cultural tourism department to the Radovljica Association, which is traditionally responsible for organizing the events.

The Way of Venus is the memory of Ulrich Lichensteinski, a poet, singing knight (Minnesenger, troubadour), the most famous literati in the court culture and entertainment of the region. He defeated other knights in various tournaments and described his adventures in a novel called “In the Service of the Lady”. In it, he describes his youth and the spectacular journey from Venice to Cesky Krumlov in 1227 via Friuli, Slovenia and Austria. The knight is dressed in a green robe, like the Queen of Light, the goddess of love Venus. He is also said to have spent some time in the Masked Castle and was nicknamed “Royal Venus”. Court culture and his poetry were undoubtedly talked about in the noble courts of the Ottenbra, Sejanyi, Lamberga families, because he was the most outstanding representative of medieval court culture.

This year’s fair also kicked off with a performance by the Gaper Lamberger troupe, followed by an archery competition in which visitors could also participate.
