Global smartphone shipments may grow 5.8% to 1.23 billion units in 2024. The forecast is made by International Data Corporation (IDC).
The previous forecast was a 4% increase to 1.21 billion.
The improvement in valuations comes after global markets gained 12% in the first quarter and 9% in the second.
“We expect the smartphone market to recover, driven by strong sales growth of devices running the Android operating system in China and emerging markets. As a result, Android sales will grow nine times faster than iOS this year, or 7.1%. Apple’s weak sales are a result of increased competition in the Chinese market and a higher comparison base last year,” explained Nabila Popal, research director at IDC Worldwide Trackers.
Meanwhile, Apple is expected to hold an event to unveil a new iPhone model, and IDC analysts predict that sales of iOS devices will grow 4% next year.
Experts say that global sales of smartphones supporting AI technology will increase 4.4 times in 2024, accounting for 18% of the market share by the end of the year.
