The swimmer returned to social media following her Olympic journey in Paris, posting a photo of herself getting back into competitive form in the gym.
Alonso tagged her sports sponsors in the post, which seemed to indicate she was preparing to return to the pool, despite quitting the sport shortly after the Olympics.
Alonso previously swam at the collegiate level for Southern Methodist University and Virginia Tech.
“Swimming: Thank you for letting me dream, you taught me to fight, to try, to persevere, to sacrifice, to be disciplined and so much more,” Alonso wrote on Twitter two weeks ago, three years after competing in her first Olympics in Tokyo.
“I gave you a part of my life and nothing in the world could change that because it was the best experience of my life, you gave me thousands of joys and friends from other countries who I will always hold in my heart for giving you a unique opportunity.
“This isn’t goodbye, this is see you soon.”

The reason why Alonso withdrew from the Olympic Village early remains a mystery, although the retired athlete has always stressed that it was her personal decision.
The Paraguayan Olympic Committee told Le Parisien last week that the swimmer left voluntarily but insisted the young athlete made other athletes and the Paraguayan delegation uncomfortable.
