Well-known musical performances return in the form of concerts. A harmonious concert brings together such well-known names in light music as Aleksandër Gjoka and Redon Makashi, vocal teachers such as Zina Zdrava or Sonila Kurti, and other promising names such as Elisa Skarra, Paolina Pajollari, Dea Amoniku, Kejtlin Gjata, David Kerri, Aria Kolaveri, etc.
It was the eighties and Pentagram Time, directed by Osman Mula and with the artistic direction of composer Gjergj Leka, was not only a musical oasis, but also a stage for young talents who later became the most loved and popular names in Albanian light music. Gjergj Leka was one of these artists who, thanks to his talent and the power of television – reaching the public immediately and intimately – became loved by the public and wrote some of the most memorable songs for them, and not only for that generation.
The monsters must disappear so you can come to this land… These are the lyrics familiar to the younger generation of listeners, from the song “In the Park Covered with Leaves”, written and sung by Leka. A famous performance, the lines are by the writer Ismail Kadare.
“Maybe they are the most beautiful lines ever said about love,” said the singer-songwriter in a replay of the music TV show. This time in the form of a concert, organized by Leka and supported by the Municipality of Tirana, in the hall of the Arts High School, a place of nostalgia for many singers and a cradle of new talents. Thanks to the Municipality for supporting such musical events, which were presented in the form of songs by Gjergj Leka, the creator and main pillar of this concert.
The concert brings together in harmony the biggest names in light music, such as Aleksandër Gjoka and Redon Makashi, today’s singers and educators who prepare young people for serious music, such as Zina Zdrava or Sonila Kurti, and other promising names, such as Elisa Skarra, Paolina Pajollari, Dea Amoniku, Keitlin Gjata, David Kerri, Aria Kolaveri and many others.
A concert that pays tribute to the many personalities who wrote the history of modern Albanian music, such as Vaçe Zela singing the song “My beautiful Arbëri”, “Valsi i Lumturisë” or other iconic songs that have become part of the cultural wealth and collective memory, such as “Neighbor”, “The Village Teacher”, “Spring Comes Without Flowers” or “Why the Blue Lake Sleeps”.
With this concert, Leka also pays tribute to the lyricists and poets who have created some of the most beautiful songs, considering them as an important component as the sound. He notes with regret that today there are no such great writers as Jorgo Papingji or Zuljana Jorganxhi.
He also humorously apologized to the poet Adelina Mamache, since few people know that it was her pen behind the lyrics of the song “What is the Fourth Sleeping Lake”, which is often confused with that of Rasgushet Poladets.
The concert, which will be broadcast on the “News 24” channel, also brought beloved songs from the 90s, such as “Ditë Dimri” and “Zemra ee gruja” sung by Aleksandër Gjoka, accompanied by Leka on the piano, the singer shared bits and pieces from the beginning of his career, but also became one of the representatives of that group of performers and singers who gathered by the lake to sing, with the famous “Lake Song”. Gjoka brought one of the most popular a cappella versions of “Anxela”. Leka released piano for Redon Makashi, who also brought different versions of his song “Ekziston”. Redon Makashi, known for his romantic ballads, stopped at the beginning of his career, emphasizing the importance of the era of “Time in my Pentagram”.
As a singer-songwriter who focuses on cultivating a good musical taste among the general public, through his signature songs, his occasional show “Once Upon a Time There Was Music”, his reality show “Stories of Talents”, or his annual festival, at the “Albanian Song Festival”, Leka also gives space to new works resulting from these initiatives, such as Elisa Skarra’s “Trokas”, which was declared the winner of the Youth category at last year’s “Albanian Song Festival”, and Paolina Pajollari’s “A Fire in the Woods in Autumn”, which is also a participant of the festival, which will celebrate its sixth edition this year. With the song “Korça ime”, Leka pays tribute to all the artists of the city, from music, literature to cinematography, making the audience sway in sounds that are not only unforgettable, but also what the younger generations desire. Some of them express themselves through voices, others taste the flavor of bygone times through the endless and magical combinations of pentagrams.
