The management of the Alexandria Mediterranean National Film Festival, headed by film critic Prince Abaza, announced the appointment of journalist Ghada Shaheen as artistic director of the 40th edition of the festival, which is scheduled to take place from October 1 to 6.
Ghada Shaheen has held a number of positions at the festival over the past decade, most recently as assistant to the festival president, editor-in-chief of last year’s conference catalogue, and head of the international communications and translation department.
Ghada Shaheen graduated from the Sisters School of Drifrande and joined the Faculty of Arts, Department of French, Cairo University, with a diploma in international translation in six specialties (scientific translation, economics, international law, literary arts, medical translation…) from the University of Lyon Lumière II, France with a good overall evaluation.
I also hold a diploma in Art Criticism, Drama and Theatre from Ain Shams University with good overall grades. From 2003 to 2005, I worked as a translator in the Confejesse project of the French Ministry of Youth and Sports. Translator for foreign companies.
She was the first interpreter for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations… In the same year, she moved to become a reporter for Nile International Channel (Nile TV).
After that, I worked as a journalist at Al-Khamis Bab Al-Fan newspaper… and Al-Anbaa newspaper Bab Al-Fan… Then from 2015 to 2022, I worked as Director of International Communications and Catalog Translation for the Alexandria International Film Festival… At this time, I worked as an arts journalist for the Elite print magazine and the Elite Bab Al-Fan magazine website… and graduated in this position until she became deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine from 2015 – 2021… She then participated in the work of several international film festivals in Egypt, such as the Ismailia Documentary and Short Film Festival, the Aswan Women’s Day… and as an assistant at the Alexandria Film Festival in the Mediterranean countries. From 2019 to date, I present the Festival Nights program on the Oscar Cinema channel in the Media Production City… The program covers local and international film festivals (Egypt-Morocco-Algeria-Sultanate of Oman…)
She translated some Egyptian films that participated in many international film festivals, such as the film “A Day for Women” directed by the star Elham Shaheen. She served as a judge for art events in many international schools.
Journalist Ghada Shaheen is the artistic director of the 40th Alexandria Mediterranean National Film Festival.
It is noteworthy that the Alexandria Festival is held under the patronage of Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno and Alexandria Governor Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said.
