In the first round of Group B, Germany defeated Japan 97:77, opening the Olympic Games in the best possible way.

Germany had no problems in this match and as expected, they led from the first minute till the end to get a must win. Japan held on until the start of 3/4, but Germany won the series 11:2 to lead 70:52 +13, which was crucial in this match.
