Heavy showers and storms are expected in eastern and southern Germany and parts of central Germany.

Germany is set to see more heavy rains on Thursday, a day after heavy storms in the country caused widespread flooding and required emergency response measures in several regions. TASR reported this based on a report from the DPA agency.

Heavy showers and storms are expected on Thursday, especially in eastern and southern parts of Germany and in some central parts of the country, according to the German Weather Office (DWD).

In the southwestern city of Rastatt, about 90 kilometres west of Stuttgart, emergency services intervened about a hundred times.

They expect to suffer financial losses

So far, no casualties have been reported, but significant economic damage is expected. The rain also penetrated into Berlin’s Central State Library (ZLB), but at the same time a pipe there burst due to the water flow. “Hundreds of thousands of books are at risk, including historical works,” said Jonas Fansa, the library’s director.

In Hesse, police and rescue workers also intervened to clear fallen trees from two motorways. Also in Bavaria and Saxony, firefighters reported uprooted trees, but in Bavaria, streets and cellars were also flooded.
