Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili signed a decree to hold parliamentary elections on October 26.

Zurabishvili’s decision was just a formality. According to the Georgian Constitution, the president calls parliamentary elections in accordance with the procedures established by the Constitution and the Organic Law; regular parliamentary elections are held “on the last Saturday of October in the calendar year in which the parliamentary term expires.”

Once the Georgia election date is set, campaigning officially begins.

Georgia’s parliament, composed of 150 deputies, will be elected for the first time using a fully proportional system.
