Libreville, Wednesday, July 3, 2024 (Gabon News) – The Transitional President, General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema, is expected to attend the International Conference on Afforestation and Reforestation (CIAR) in Brazzaville this Wednesday, which begins work on Tuesday.
According to the organizers, the conference launched the “Global Decade of Afforestation and Reforestation”, an innovative concept proposed by Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso during COP27 in Egypt in 2023.
The main purpose of the meeting is to strengthen tree planting actions to more effectively respond to climate change, soil degradation and the deterioration of animal and bird habitats.
The initiative, which will bring together a host of experts from the continent, Africa and beyond in the Congolese capital until July 5, has as its main objective one: to increase forest areas to better cope with climate change.
In addition to experts, political decision-makers, representatives of international organizations and civil society actors gathered in Brazzaville to discuss best practices in afforestation and reforestation.
President Origi Nguema’s presence at the conference underscores Gabon’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. As a country with rich biodiversity and important tropical forests, Gabon plays an important role in global efforts to combat climate change.
