Libreville, Saturday, July 20, 2024 (Gabon News) – The President of the Gabonese National Olympic Committee (CNOG), Cléssan Pambaud, addressed the press to discuss Gabon’s participation in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially known as the 33rd Olympiad, will be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Gabon has five (5) athletes who will defend their colors in these games and their performance needs to be optimistic. Even if the preparations are minimal, this is a gap that CNOG wants to fill as it has an innovative plan.

“We will organize an Olympic Club in the Paris region, which will accelerate a certain number of events to be held in two (2) days, from July 26 to 27,” said Crésant Pambo, Monday, July 16, 2024.

Adding: “The first day will be dedicated to Gabonese culture, including the display of the country’s masks, while the second day will see the organization of three (3) seminars and the launch of a special CNOG fund called Olympique Capital”.

He said this would provide “the opportunity to mobilize funds that will allow us to finance with full autonomy the major sporting events that we plan to organize in Libreville.”

Contrary to the speculation of some opinions, especially regarding the number of Gabonese athletes who will travel to France, Kressan Pambeau could not be clearer.

“A country like Gabon has five people who have qualified, I am not saying that it is enough, but compared to our environment and compared to a country like Rwanda which is recognized as a great sporting nation and has eight (8) athletes who have qualified for these Olympic Games,” he argued.

Regarding the chances of Gabonese athletes winning medals, the NOC president took a step back on the issue, noting that in this type of competition all athletes have the same chance.

In Paris, Gabon will participate in four (4) sports: Taekwondo, Judo, Swimming and Athletics. Gabonese athletes invited to the meeting include Taekwondo athlete Emmanuela Atora (-57 kg), sprinter Wessi Franck Haye Yenda Moukoula, Judo athlete Virginie Aymard (-48 kg) and athletes participating in the 100m event. The brothers Aya and Gerard from Langlade Mpali compete in the 50m freestyle event.
