Libreville, Monday, August 5, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – In this space, visitors will discover and admire various big cats and endangered species such as lions, tigers, pumas, cheetahs, panthers, crocodiles and other animals.
The transitional authorities took over the private zoo from President Ali Bongo Ondimba and transformed it into a public space open to the public, where they can discover a variety of wild animals. A few months ago, the transitional president decided to declassify the large Wonga Wongué Park as an area reserved exclusively for private events of the head of state.
Furthermore, General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema decided to transfer this park to the public domain, which would then be renamed the “Gabon Fauna Park”. To this end, he gave new instructions, instructing the Minister of Tourism, Pascal Ogowet Siffon, to take all the necessary measures to open this magnificent jewel to the public.
The Director of Administration and Finance of the Gabon Zoo (DAF), Jean-Martin Evrard Doumbeneny Ondo, assured that the date of the official opening of the park to the public will be announced in the coming days. The former president’s private zoo is located in the grounds of his official residence in Ohio, next to the main station of the coal mine.
The building was built by Ali Bongo Ondimba the day after he came to power in 2010 and it was in this space that he received distinguished guests.
