Libreville, Friday, July 5, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The draw for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers took place last Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa. The tournament, hosted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), features 48 teams in 12 different groups.
The 2025 CAN draw makes it possible to choose the football teams that must participate in the tournament in order to obtain the necessary tickets to the 24 national teams that will participate in the final stage of the tournament in Morocco, the organizing country of which will be from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
Gabon, which intends to advance to the final stage, was placed in Group B with host Morocco, Central African Republic and Lesotho. This was enough to attract the attention of the Gabonese coach, who also expressed his satisfaction.
“I would like to say that we are happy with the draw, especially knowing that we are in a difficult Group B. We knew we would have to fight for a spot with three people, considering that Morocco was seeded and had already qualified as the host nation,” said Thierry Mouyouma.
And added: “So Gabon, the Central African Republic and Lesotho will have to fight for one spot, but in my opinion it is achievable, especially since our only goal is to qualify for the next CAN in Morocco.”
The draw also brought other revelations, such as the fact that defending champions Ivory Coast were drawn in Group G with Sierra Leone, Chad and Zambia.
