Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Corporate Affairs Director Steven Kapoloma has urged those who failed to meet their tax obligations in the first quarter to take the initiative to resolve the issue with the MRA.

He made the remarks during a media training session in Lilongwe on Thursday.

Capoloma stressed that taxes play a vital role in financing social services and development projects that benefit the country.

He explained that by paying taxes, individuals contribute to the provision of basic services, including medicines in hospitals, learning materials in public schools and salaries for civil servants.

He also said the tax revenue would be used to support development projects such as building roads, bridges, clinics, school buildings and markets.

Capoloma acknowledged that unforeseen circumstances could prevent some taxpayers from meeting their obligations.

However, he encouraged all those who owed tax to come forward and settle their accounts with the MRA, assuring that the agency was willing to work with taxpayers to find a solution.

“Let us all fulfill our tax obligations and work together for national development,” Kapoloma stressed.
