After changing the jurisdiction of courts, Lithuania will retain 27 courts from the beginning of July instead of 43, but residents will still be able to file applications with the courts after this date as before, as the court infrastructure remains preserved, the National Court Administration (NTA) reported.
The Chairperson of the Council of Judges, Sigita Rudėnaitė, said that the changes in the activities of the regional courts were implemented in a complex way, with the aim of creating conditions for the specialization of judges and ensuring the same quality and speed of justice in large and large cities. The problem of a more even workload for judges was solved, and the funds of the court system were managed more efficiently. It is important to emphasize that after the implementation of the reforms, the availability of court services will not change, and the places where cases will be heard will remain.
For example, if a person resides in the municipality of Priene and he files a case that was heard by the former Priene branch of the Alytus District Court, then after the merger of the jurisdictions of the Priene and Alytus branches, the case will be heard by the Alytus branch of the Alytus District Court, but will be heard by the Alytus branch of the Priene District Court.
When the courts are consolidated, a person will have the opportunity to file an application with the court, file documents with the court, receive all information, and attend court hearings.
The NTA said that in implementing the changes, basic principles were followed so that at least 20 judges were working in the courts and seven judges were working in the court buildings. referee (This is the minimum number of judges to determine specialization) and the distance between the court and other courts will not exceed 60 kilometers.

In the Klaipėda Regional Court, all courts were merged, but courts remained in Klaipėda and Gargždai. The Plunge Regional Court was attached to it.
The Panevėžys District Court will consist of the Biržić Palace, Panevėžys Palace and Rokiškis Palace (which will cover the territory of the former Kupiškis Palace), but the seat of the court will remain in Kupiškis.
The Šiauliai District Court will consist of the Radviliškis Palace (including the territory of the former Joniškis Palace, but the court seat in Joniškis will remain), the Raseniai Palace (including the territory of the former Kelmė Palace, but the court seat will remain. The buildings in Kelmė will remain) and the Šiauliai Palace.

The Tauraj District Court will consist of the Shirut Palace and the Tauraj Palace (it will include the territory of the former Hilal Palace, but the court premises in Hilal will remain, and the territory of the former Yulbarkas Palace will be attached to the palace, and the court building in Yulbarkas will remain).
The Utena District Court will consist of the Anykschiai Palace (which includes the territory of the former Moletae Palace, but the court seat in Moletae will remain), the Ignalina Palace (which will be connected to the Svencioni Palace and its activity area, but the court building in Svencioni will remain), the Utena Palace and the Zarasay Palace (which includes the activity area of the former Visaginas Chamber of Commerce, but the Visaginas court building will remain).
The District Court of the Vilnius Region will consist of the Salkininkai Palace, the Trakai Palace, the Ukmergi Palace (which will cover the territory of the former Sventos Palace, but the court seat in Sventos will remain) and the Vilnius Regional Palace.
As of the beginning of this year, 12 district courts and 48 chambers were functioning in Lithuania. From January 1 this year, after the first stage of the reorganization of district courts, 12 district courts and 43 chambers began to function (Skuodas, Akmenės, Lazdijas, Pakruojs, Pasvalis chambers were closed and their activities were transferred to Plungės, Mažeikiai, Alytus, Joniškios, Stock Exchange).
ELTA reminded that last June, Parliament approved amendments to the law aimed at reforming the courts.
As previously published Ministry of JusticeThe judicial reform aims to improve the quality of judicial administration and optimize the management of court financial resources by abandoning improperly used court infrastructure, equalizing the workload of district courts and regional courts in major cities across the country.
