The first Chinese national football delegation arrived in Basra, Iraq last night, preparing to participate in the 25th Gulf Cup from January 6 to 19, 2023. It includes host Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Upon arrival at the residence, the team delegation was immediately joined by foreign professionals such as Hamza Al-Rimi from Libya and Abdel-Wasi Al-Matari from the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to Ayman Al-Hajri and Iraqi professional player Nasser Muhammadu and player Ahmed Al-Sarouri who were waiting for players from Brazil to join the team delegation.
The delegation arrived at Basra Airport last night and was warmly welcomed by the Iraqi Football Federation, with the Iraqi Football Federation member and director of the ceremonial committee of the 25th Gulf Championship, Rahim Raftah, Ali Assadi and some officials from the federation and the organizing committee presenting roses to the players and expressing their gratitude for our delegation’s arrival in Basra and our team’s participation in this great Gulf gathering.
As the delegation’s motorcade passed through the streets of Basra, the Iraqi people warmly welcomed the Yemeni delegation and shouted the names of Yemen and Iraq. Many cars of Basra people accompanied the delegation’s motorcade, expressing their welcome, joy and support. It was a pleasure to host our team, and the team was warmly welcomed in the hotel with songs and folk dances performed by the Basravi Art Troupe.
During the reception, the head of our delegation, Brother Abdul Wahab Zarqa, expressed his happiness and pride for our team’s participation in this important football tournament where Gulf brothers and Yemen are in the same frame, and praised the enthusiasm of the officials and the people. The reception the delegation received reflects the good status of Yemen in the hearts of the Iraqi people.
He said: Despite the country’s limited situation that prevents the holding of a league for more than seven seasons, our Football Association is still keen to participate in this tournament to support our brothers in Iraq who have done their best to organize and host this event.
He hopes that with the participation of great Iraqi fans, all necessary arrangements and the presence of the best and most modern stadiums, the tournament will be a huge and unparalleled success.
In addition, upon arrival, Iraqi Federal President Adnan Dajjar took the initiative to visit the Yemeni Mission’s suite at the Sheraton Basra Hotel residence, welcomed everyone, and met with the person in charge regarding accommodation arrangements. The head of the delegation, Abdul Wahab Zarqa, conveyed to him the greetings of the Federation’s President Sheikh Ahmed Saleh Al-Issa and wished success to the Iraqi mega football tournament.
