Yemeni civil society organizations strongly condemned and denounced the heinous acts of kidnapping, continued abduction of journalists and repressive treatment of journalists.
The organizations said they had received reports from the family of Tawfiq Al-Mansouri, a journalist abducted by the Houthi coup militia since June 2015 and unjustly sentenced to death, that the abducted journalist’s health had reached a critical state. Due to physical and psychological torture, his health had deteriorated and he was showing symptoms of a fatal chronic disease, and his condition was extremely critical. He was being held in the Sana’a Central Security Camp Prison with his colleagues and was in critical condition, requiring emergency evacuation to a hospital.
The organizations demand that journalist Tawfik Mansouri be quickly transferred to a hospital and provided with the necessary medical care, hold the Houthi militias accountable for these arbitrary actions and the risk they may have posed to the life of journalist Tawfik Mansouri, call for his immediate release, and for all those who have been abducted and forcibly disappeared.
Yemeni civil society organizations confirmed that these heinous practices by the Houthis against journalist Tawfiq Mansouri are a direct target of the press and freedom of expression, and demanded that the world and all international institutions have a responsibility to condemn these practices and hold the Houthi militias accountable, which transcend all values and violate all international norms and laws. She pointed out that the continued kidnapping and torture of journalists by the Houthi militias is a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and a blatant violation of all international conventions, laws and treaties that guarantee press freedom, the safety of journalists, the right to access information and the protection of journalists.
Yemeni civil society organizations call on the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations and other international organizations to condemn these practices and put pressure on the militia to release all those arbitrarily abducted and forcibly disappeared and to work towards deterrent measures against the militia.
We reiterate our call for the speedy release of all abducted journalists and the annulment of the unjust death sentences against our colleagues Abdulkhaliq Omran, Tawfiq Mansouri, Akram Walidi and Haris Hamid.
