The Catholic Church welcomed this Sunday four new permanent deacons, Jean-François Tonta, Giovanni Alexis, Désiré Ajuda and Alain Rougeau. The ceremony took place in Tabor in the presence of the Bishop of Port Louis, Mgr. Jean-Michel Duhon. It is four years since the four new permanent deacons began their formation journey with the support of their wives and other family members. Giovanni Alexis is single, while the other three deacons are married. A deacon can baptize, bless spouses at weddings and preach at Mass, but he cannot celebrate the Eucharist or confess.
