Four Caymanians heading to Paris in search of Olympic glory: Cayman News Service

(CNS): The Cayman Islands Olympic Committee has unveiled the four local athletes heading to Paris later this month to represent the country at the 2024 Olympics. Swimming brothers Gillian and Jordan Crooks, sprinter Davonte Howell and sailor Charlotte Webster will form the 12th team to represent Cayman at the Olympics. Howell will compete in the men’s 100m and Webster in the women’s dinghy. Jordan Crooks will compete in the men’s 50m and 100m freestyle, and his sister Gillian will compete in the women’s 100m freestyle.

Lori Powell, interim president of the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee, said: “We are so proud of our athletes and look forward to seeing them represent the Cayman Islands on the world stage. They have invested countless hours in training, travelled and made the necessary sacrifices to reach the pinnacle of sport. On behalf of the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee and the Cayman Islands, I congratulate them.”

This will be the Olympic debut for Jordan Crooks, Howell and Webster, while Jillian Crooks will be competing in her second Olympics. Jordan qualified for both events by reaching the Olympic “A” standard at the 2023 World Swimming Championships in Japan. Jillian Crooks entered the Olympics after running a career-best time of 55.18 seconds at the Commonwealth Youth Games less than a year ago.

Howell is the eighth athlete to represent Cayman in Olympic track and field, with a season-best time of 10.10 seconds. Webster, who qualified for the 2023 Pan Am Games by showing at the event, is following in the footsteps of more than a dozen Cayman Olympic sailors.

Paris 2024 The competition begins on July 26 and ends on August 11. Paris is the main host city, but events will be held in 16 other cities across France.

Other members of the Cayman Islands delegation include President Powell, Chef de Mission Shakeina Bush, swimming coach Nicholas Kredich, Cayman Islands Swimming Technical Director Jacky Pellerin, track and field coach Tyrone Yen, sailing coach Raph Harvey, team physician Dr. Carl Andrew Brown, team physiotherapist Dr. Kristina Bramwell and press attaché Kevin Morales.
