Former Minister of Health Nelu Tătaru on Pantelimon’s case: “We have no right to decide to end life”

Former Health Minister Dr Nelu Tataru said in the San Pantelimon Hospital incident that doctors “do not have the right to decide to end a life” and pointed out the mistakes of the current minister, Alexandru Rafira.

Doctors have no right to decide which patients should die, former Health Minister Nelu Tătaru argued in a post about the shocking case at Bucharest’s St. Pantelimon Hospital, where two female doctors were arrested for murder.

”The case at St. Pantelimon’s Hospital leaves us speechless. Neither in school nor in our daily lives as doctors are we taught to choose who lives and who dies.

Professionals from the Decision Analysis Committee, the College of Physicians or the Ministry of Health Committee… What was revealed after the investigation does not really “match” with what the prosecutor said today.

I repeat, the Ministry of Health and the nominal authorities should conduct a more in-depth analysis of the situation!

“We don’t have the right to decide to end our lives. This is not our purpose.”

The former PNL health minister believes that the current PSD minister, Alexandru Rafila, is also partly responsible.

”These controls could have been much tighter, and the decisions that were made then or that should have been made in the intervening months (but were not made) leave room for interpretation, which is why we are having this discussion today.

As professionals, we actually have to help these patients survive and save their lives. We don’t have the right to decide to end a life, that’s not our purpose.

However, I believe that until this investigation is concluded, we must not project such an image onto the entire medical body! It is not worth it.
Before throwing stones, we must think of the “army of white coats” who do their best for the health and life of each patient.”, Nelu Tătaru also wrote.
