The Economic and Financial Crimes Court today ordered former Lusaka Provincial Minister Bowman Lusambo to plead guilty to two charges of possessing property suspected to be the proceeds of crime.
It is alleged that between May 1, 2015 and December 31, 2021, Lusambo, acting jointly or in concert with other unidentified persons, were in possession of property numbered F/609/E/44/B/9, comprising a single-storey four-bedroom house and a guest house building, situated at Chamba Valley, Lusaka, which were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Chief Resident Magistrate Davis Chibwili has appointed Lusambo to defend him and a pre-defense conference in the case is scheduled for August 16, 2024.
Yesterday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Court also sentenced Bowman Lusambo and his wife Nancy Manase to appear, with Lusambo facing five (5) charges of possessing property suspected to be the proceeds of crime.
The cases are: one (1) count of corruptly obtaining public property, three (3) counts of tax evasion and one count of conspiracy to defraud contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Additionally, Mr Lusambo and his wife Nancy were accused of owning four (4) houses in Silverest Gardens, Chongwe which were allegedly proceeds of crime.
Lusaka magistrate Faides Haamaundu approached Lusambo and his wife to answer their case and made them defence counsel.
In 2022, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seized over K22 million worth of properties from former Lusaka Provincial Minister Bowman Lusambo that were suspected to be proceeds of crime.
This was stated in a press release issued to the media in Lusaka by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Corporate Communications Director, Timothy Muno.
