Quito. – The ECU-911 Integrated Security Service reported on Saturday that a forest fire in Loja province in the southern Andes of Ecuador had burned 345 hectares of land, but no casualties were reported.
A fire was reported on Friday in San Antonio de las Alladas parish in Quilanga de loja province, which mobilized personnel and equipment from multiple fire departments in the area, as well as the police and the State Secretariat for risk management, added ECU-911.
Initial reports indicated that the disaster had caused widespread impact, affecting 161 hectares of forest, grassland and native vegetation in the area.
However, the latest assessment by the Ministry of Environment warns that the forest fire has spread to 345 hectares.
The Kilanga City Fire Department reported that considering the seriousness of the incident, the Emergency Operations Committee (COE) has been activated to intensify operations to control the fire.
Around 60 troops from different aid agencies have been deployed to the scene to try to control the emergency, including firefighters from the towns of Quilanga, Carvas, Saraguro, Catamayo and Espindola.
There were also 19 soldiers from the armed forces and 15 community members from the parish, ECU-911 added, insisting that there were currently “no reports of casualties as a result of this emergency.”
