“Real estate investment companies saw a slight uptick in growth in 2011-2012 as they grew better in 2012 and early 2013,” Bonna said. “After Cambodia hosted the ASEAN summit, which was attended by world leaders, we saw an influx of foreign investors into Cambodia, but some of them are currently studying and considering the possibility of investing in Cambodia.”

Despite signs of increased investment, Bona warned that Cambodia has too many public holidays to keep investors happy, which is a point of concern for him.

“It’s been 45 days this year, but there have only been 25 working days so far, which is an important issue that the Cambodian government should pay attention to.”

Kong Pthela, director of the Statistics and Information Department of the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, said that a total of 347 international companies have entered Cambodia to invest in real estate, including 107 from South Korea, 54 from China, 21 from Malaysia, France and the United States, 17 from the United Kingdom, 15 from Australia and Vietnam, 12 from Thailand, 8 from Japan, and 56 from other countries.

However, he did not confirm the level of growth in foreign companies’ investment in Cambodia.

Keuk Narin, vice president of Asia Real Estate Cambodia, said that since 2012, many international companies have invested in Cambodia’s real estate sector, including investors from Malaysia, Singapore and China, while the number of Japanese companies flowing into Cambodia has increased since the second quarter of 2012.

Cheng Kheng, director of CPL Real Estate and president of the Cambodian Real Estate Appraisers and Estate Agents Association, said he did not want to say anything as he was working with a related partner now.

“It is true that the number of foreign companies investing and doing business in this field has increased, but I don’t have a specific number. I have been working with the relevant parties to get a clear picture of the number,” he said.
