St. Thomas MP Cynthia Forde isn’t ready to quit politics just yet.
When she does, she’ll be heard saying it.
This was her response to recent inquiries from the national team regarding a social media post which indicated that she had announced her retirement and that the St. Thomas branch of the Barbados Labour Party needed a successor.
“I don’t know where this false information comes from,” Ford said. “People are just lawless.”
“Everyone knows that I said I would not run after 2022, but 2022 has passed and the five-year term has not yet ended. So I don’t understand who is doing this… This is news to me.”
Forde, who was previously the Minister of People’s Empowerment and Senior Citizens Affairs, said she convened a chapter meeting two weeks ago on Sunday to discuss local affairs, including issues affecting senior citizens.
She advised people who write such “nonsense” to find more productive ways to spend their time, such as volunteering to work with children or helping boys in the neighbourhood. The veteran MP was elected in a 2001 by-election when Attorney General David Simmons announced his retirement from parliament. Since then, she has been successful in every general election from 2003 to 2022.
