Football: Eric Schöncher announces legal action after being fired

Former Mali Eagles coach Ricoe Scherer was thanked by the Mali Football Federation on June 13 following his poor performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Almost three weeks after being sacked, he reacted by announcing possible legal action against FEMAFOOT.
In a press release published on Wednesday, July 3, Ric Skou Chelle recalled that since being named captain of the national team, he has given his best to fulfilling this mission. Before being dismissed, I tried to do my best despite the difficult circumstances. I was extremely happy to work for my country. Therefore, for reasons of morality, honor and dignity, I decided to remain silent about the challenges I encountered, he noted.

He would like to thank the Malian sports community, all the players of the Malian national team and the country’s authorities for their unconditional support in this great adventure. Although it was a surprise to learn of my dismissal through a press release on social networks, I remain proud of the work done and the opportunities I had, he regretted.

According to him, as a professional football coach, he had to react professionally. That’s why I was forced to defend my rights through legal means. I am a Malian and I have always tried not to dishonor my country by disclosing my difficulties on social networks, he declared.

With these words, the page is far from being turned for Eric Skou and the Malian Football Federation. They foreshadow a legal battle between him and FEMAFOOT, a crisis that has seen the players threaten not to respond to the next gathering if the physical situation remains the same.
