Sometimes you think something looks great on you, but it actually makes you look boring! Or worse, older. Maybe your partner won’t tell you this when you ask him the golden question for the umpteenth time, but it’s true!

Certain clothes can really make you look like you’ve gained a few pounds, or aged a few years.

So, if you don’t want to look older and fatter, try not to make these five fashion mistakes!

1. Wear black from head to toe

This misstep falls into the category of forbidden combinations. No doubt, black can make you look classy and sophisticated, but if you belong to the other side of the age fence, stay away from wearing head-to-toe black.

2. Wear one or two sizes larger

When you gain some fat around your midsection or anywhere below or above your belly, you’ll hide like a turtle under your clothes! But buying clothes that are larger than your size can actually make you look bigger than you really are because of the added bulk in places you don’t need it. So if you want to look good, always choose clothes that are your size!

3. Wear a long skirt

As much as you love them, you can consider not wearing them anymore in your 20s. Long skirts make your limbs look bulky, giving the illusion that your lower body is heavier than before and your legs are not as shapely. The fix? Wear short skirts. You know, they are not just for young girls. However, if they are not to your taste, knee-length skirts are a good alternative that you can try.

4. Wear “granny” or “modern” shoes

The choice of shoes can easily make or break your outfit. That’s why it’s wise not to go for the shoes that are currently trending, but to go for shoes that match your clothes, age and weight. The same applies to totally unattractive shoe styles that you always justify by their comfort. Trust us, there are some beautiful styles that are also extremely comfortable.

5. Silk scarf

Unless you are going to a retro-themed party, keep your silk scarf in your wardrobe. One of the most popular clothing accessories in the sixties was to wear a silk scarf around your neck. Today, however, this will make you look outdated. However, if you can’t part with your favorite silk scarf, consider using it as a headband, bracelet, or as an accessory around your purse. Looking good doesn’t mean blindly following fashion trends. It’s all about developing your own personal style to help you always dress well!
