Yesterday, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and CHP’s seventh chairman Kemal Krizidaroglu met for the first time after the congress.
The meeting, which Istanbul Mayor Ekrem ïmamoğlu had long demanded, took place at Kılıçdaroğlu’s home in Kukulanbar, Ankara, on the evening of August 20, according to information provided by the close circle of former Republican People’s Party Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
Sources close to Kılıçdaroğlu said that “national and party issues” were discussed during the meeting, and that the conversation continued in the form of a tea party with İmamoğlu to “let bygones be bygones and look to the future.”
It is reported that the issues discussed in this context include the country’s economic crisis, the active and vigorous struggle with the AKP government, mutual dissatisfaction with the normalization process, the exchange of views on the Republican People’s Party’s Constituent Assembly to be held on September 8, and Imamoğlu’s Istanbul project.
The source stressed that Kılıçdaroğlu did not discuss issues regarding CHP management with imamoğlu, and imamoğlu did not raise the issue.
Private Interview
The same source said they learned from the media that CHP Chairman Özgül Özer intends to visit Kirılcidaroglu before the congress, and said he believes it is right to convey Kirılcidaroglu’s views on the party’s management directly to Özer.
When asked whether Kırıçdaroğlu’s criticism of Imamoglu had only been on the agenda recently, a source in Kırıçdaroğlu’s close circle said that neither politician dwelled on past issues and that it was important now to put aside their differences and focus on the fight against President Tayyip Erdogan and the AKP. He noted that they talked about this.
