Libreville, Monday, July 29, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – Economic operators that are members of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) held a working meeting in Libreville on Monday, July 22. The meeting took place almost three years after Gabon officially rejoined this international body.
This remains a quality assurance mechanism to assess the progress made by member countries in meeting stakeholder commitments and transparency. During this meeting, Mr. Christian Boupassia, President of the Gabonese Mining Union, pointed out the urgent need to respond quickly to issues raised by economic operators in the mining, gas and oil sectors.
Worse still, he recalled the importance of data that underpins their contribution to the EITI report. Participants appreciated this approach to supporting extractive industry initiatives.
The first meeting of EITI Group Economic Operators aims to celebrate Gabon’s return to this structure and raise awareness among a wider range of stakeholders in the private sector as part of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative’s verification process.
