Thea Lafond (30) from the Dominican Republic won the gold medal in the triple jump at the Paris Olympics, bringing her country its first Olympic medal in history. The Dominican Republic, with 72,000 inhabitants, can now proudly boast of this extraordinary sporting achievement.
The decisive moment of the competition came in the second series, when all the best jumps were achieved. Lafon then jumped an impressive 15.02 meters to finally take the gold medal.
Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts (32) won the silver medal with a high jump of 14.87 meters, and American Jasmine Moore (23) won the bronze medal with a high jump of 14.67 meters.
Ricketts, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, finally won an Olympic medal to add to her two silver medals at the World Championships (Doha 2019 and Eugene 2022).
Cuban women Liadagmis Povea and Leyanis Perez Hernandez finished fourth and fifth with scores of 14.64m and 14.62m respectively, not far from medals.
