The company, Pirotecnia Oleirense, is the Portuguese company chosen by the Tourism Services Board to close the International Fireworks Competition. This year’s event is special, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
It was announced yesterday that Pirotecnia Oleirense, based in Oleiros, Castelo Branco, will close the Macau International Fireworks Competition on October 6. The Tourism Services Directorate (DST) said in a press release that the Portuguese team will present the show entitled “O Olhar Humano”, the last of the ten shows of the 32nd edition of the competition.
According to DST, the Pirotecnia Oleirense show will reflect on “the mythological meaning of the stars” in a “journey without clear space or time” and will be “the perfect ending to the competition.”
In addition to Portugal, this year’s competition will also bring 20-minute fireworks and music performances from companies from Russia, France, Canada, Thailand, Spain, the Philippines, Japan, mainland China and Italy.
This year, the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the handover of Macau’s sovereignty will also be celebrated starting from September 7.

DST deputy director Cheng Wai Tong told Lusa the budget would increase by 2.5% from 2023 to 18 million, mainly due to “increased shipping prices” for fireworks. Cheng said most of the budget would be provided by Macau’s six gaming operators.
The official predicted that depending on weather conditions, the tournament could draw as many visitors to the city as last year, “around 700,000.”
In 2023, after a three-year hiatus due to the covid-19 pandemic, Macedos Pirotecnia, located in the municipality of Felgueiras, in the Porto district, presented its show “Supernova” for the first time. The United Kingdom won the championship, while China and Japan took second and third place respectively.
The tournament partially coincides with China’s so-called “Golden Week” of National Day. Last year, including several holidays between September 29 and October 6, Macau received more than 116,500 visitors a day.
