According to firefighters, when they arrived, the apartment was already on fire. When the PGP arrived, 12 people had already left the stairwell of the house. The fire started in a three-bedroom apartment (70 square meters) with a kitchen.
During the fire, the room (16 m2) and its contents were completely destroyed, the windows inside and on the balcony were broken. Smoke was coming out of the ceiling in the adjacent rooms and the corridor. No smoke detectors were installed.
Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus provided more information about the fire on his Facebook page.
It is alleged that the motorcycle’s rechargeable battery exploded, causing the fire in the apartment.
“There was a big accident, a fire broke out in the apartment due to a possible explosion of the rechargeable battery of the scooter. Fortunately, no one was injured. Of course, a large part of people’s belongings was destroyed by the fire. We were on the scene, the people expressed their wishes and we immediately accommodated them in a hotel. City services: public farm, heat network The situation was assessed on site and the most important problems were eliminated.
Tomorrow morning, cleaning and maintenance of the territories and houses will begin. The municipality will assess the situation and provide as much financial help as the law allows. We will take action tomorrow. Thank you so much to the firefighters, police, paramedics, you are unreal and have big hearts! Together with the entire community, we will help as much as we can and will not leave residents in the lurch. I appeal to everyone who can help people and repair houses as quickly as possible, especially builders or construction companies”, writes Šarūnas Vaitkus.
