The ancestral house of filmmaker Ritvik Kumar Ghatak in Rajshahi has been demolished. Currently, a pile of bricks lies in the yard of the house. Such scenes were seen at this house in the Guramala Miyapara area of the city. Members of the Ritvik Ghatak Film Association and cultural activists of Rajshahi protested against the destruction of the house. They demanded punishment for those involved.

Such scenes were seen at this house in the Guramala Miyapara area of the city. Members of the Ritvik Ghatak Film Association and cultural workers in Rajshahi protested against the destruction of the house. They demanded punishment for those involved.
They said that earlier, the Rajshahi Homeopathic Medical College had tried to demolish Ritvik Ghatak’s ancestral house to occupy the land. Even the college was built on one side of the house.
Meanwhile, a probe committee headed by Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Mohinul Hasan has been set up to look into the incident. The probe committee has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.
It is understood that 34% of the entire house is land. In 1989, the Ershad government rented out the Rajshahi Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital. The college is close to the house on the west side. In 2019, the school authorities demolished part of the house to build a bicycle garage and received complaints. At that time, the entire state, including Rajshahi, protested against the incident. In 2020, the Rajshahi district government took the initiative to protect the house.
It is understood that the childhood and teenage ancestral home of famous filmmaker Ritvik Kumar Ghatak is located in Miyapara in Rajshahi. The miscreants vandalized the house. The house has been reduced to ruins. Many people blamed the Rajshahi Homeopathic Medical College for this incident. At present, the remaining houses of the house have been demolished and bricks have been piled in the yard.
Hrithik Ghatak Film Society organiser Anaba Kabir Prakriti and web series producer Tawkeer Shaik said the Homeopathic Medical College is just next door. It is unbelievable that there was no attack but Hrithik Ghatak’s house was reduced to ruins.
They said we had gone to different places to save the house. The DC office had issued a stay order and there was nothing they could do about it, they couldn’t break it. Even so, the house was broken.
Dr. Anisur Rahman, dean of Rajshahi Homeopathic Medical College, said, “I have no comment on this. A probe committee has been set up. I will accept the report of the probe committee.”
Contractor Shamim Mia said: “We saw one side of the house was damaged when we came. When they were demolished, the inner rooms also collapsed due to the fragility of the building.
Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed said a probe committee has been set up to investigate the incident and they will submit their report within seven working days.
