Fiji’s PM to begin week-long China visit to strengthen ties

Fijian Prime Minister Sitiweni Rabuka will visit China from August 14 to 21, marking a further deepening of relations between the two countries. The visit highlights China’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with South Pacific island nations, as both sides seek closer ties and new opportunities for cooperation.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit will conduct in-depth discussions on China-Fiji relations and issues of common concern. In the 49 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Fiji, cooperation in various fields has made great progress, benefiting the people of both countries.

During Rabuka’s visit, China hopes to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, with a focus on mutual respect and common development. Analysts predict that the two sides may discuss key areas such as climate change, economic development, new energy and desalination technology.

Despite external pressure from the United States and Australia, Fiji continues to engage with China, maintain police cooperation and seek a balanced approach in international relations. Rabuka’s visit is expected to further strengthen China-Fiji relations and contribute to the establishment of a closer community of shared future between China and Pacific island countries.
