The 2024 OFC U19 Men’s Championship kicks off in Samoa and Fijian youth team Burura Boys are determined to maintain the momentum from their first two U-20 World Cup qualifiers.

With high expectations on their shoulders, the team has been preparing intensively for over a month, hoping to continue Fiji’s strong tradition and qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Coach Marika Rodu spoke about the team’s preparation and the pressure to live up to past performances.

“We have been training together for four weeks and this will be the fifth week. Our previous U-19 team played in the World Cup so it will be a challenge for us to make sure there is a level of consistency,” said Rodu.

Rodu said the team is focusing on getting off to a good start in the match which starts tomorrow.

He added: “It is very important for us to lead the group from our perspective, so we start doing business tomorrow.”

Fiji will open the tournament at 11am against Tahiti.
