Fiji U-16s put in a strong performance, beating Tahiti 2-1 to secure a place in the Oceania Football Association Championship final.

In doing so, the team has secured qualification for next year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

At the beginning of the game, although the host Tahiti team dominated the game, they were unable to break through the solid defense of the Fijian team.

Fiji opened the scoring with a fine individual performance from Veleni Rasorewa.

In the 7th minute of the game, he evaded two defenders and successfully saved the ball from the Tahitian goalkeeper, setting the pace for a thrilling match.

Tahiti controlled the majority of possession but struggled to convert into goals, with their best chance hitting the post just before half-time.

Meanwhile, Fiji’s strategic counterattack paid off again in the 68th minute when Lasorewa broke through for the second goal, doubling Fiji’s lead with a powerful shot.

Fortunately, Tahiti pulled one back – a long shot was blocked by the Fijian defender and shot into the net, igniting hope.

However, Fiji’s defence held off Tahiti’s re-energised effort, ensuring their lead remained until the final whistle.
