The 05th arrondissement police station in the city of Ouagadougou has just stopped the illegal activities of two (02) suspected thugs who were roaming among the residents of the capital of Burkina Faso and the city of Zinyare.
The men, who are in their twenties, worked in pairs and committed acts of aggression and armed robbery in several areas of Ouagadougou and Zinyare.
In terms of their modus operandi, the alleged thugs crisscrossed the arteries of the cities concerned and previously spotted Orange Money stores and remittance kiosks. Once the target was chosen, one of them presented himself to the manager as a customer who wished to withdraw a minimum of FCFA 500,000. Once the availability of the amount was confirmed, the amount came out without the need for false operations.
The two stayed nearby until the victim closed her workplace and went home. That’s when they followed her and, when appropriate, used weapons to control her and robbed her of her possessions and the day’s haul before disappearing into the wild. The money obtained was distributed among them, while the bags, mobile phones and other documents taken were abandoned elsewhere to avoid leaving traces.
In addition to the attacks, the two also carried out robberies in the city of Ouagadougou, mainly at the northern and western overpasses, targeting women.
It is noteworthy that within one semester (January to June 2024), the two committed more than ten crimes and millions of CFA francs were stolen.
Thanks to the cooperation of the public, investigators seized a number of items including automatic pistols, magazines and ammunition, motorcycles, mobile phones and clothing when they arrested the men.
The National Police once again thanked the citizens for achieving this result and invited them to be more vigilant in their surroundings and to continue reporting any suspicious cases they encounter to the toll-free numbers provided to them: 17, 16 and 1010.
