Firefighting teams continued to battle the blaze which broke out north of Agios Theras at midday on Friday, but strong winds made extinguishing the flames difficult.
Fire department press representative Andreas Katie said civil protection teams were also working to extinguish the fire from its early stages, but he reported that strong winds were blowing in the area, making firefighting efforts difficult.
In addition, he noted that an advanced fire control center has been installed and is under the command of the Minister of Justice and Archpriest N. Logginos.
A spokesperson for the Fire Department earlier noted that the fire on the eastern front remained active, adding that the fire affected the tin structure with associated firewood cutting equipment as well as piles of firewood.
