Plaza Pública is a digital newspaper of analysis, research and debate from Guatemala City, Central America. It defends human rights, democracy and the search for truth. Since February 22, 2011, he has been engaged in in-depth journalism, specializing in the relationship between politics and economy, the relationship between politics and organized crime, and disturbing social issues.
Rafael Landivar University calls on a group of journalists to create a digital media that contributes to the construction and defense of a solid, vibrant, ethical and socially just democracy. (Here is the link to our first Public Square editorial, the equivalent of a constitution.)
We publish news reports almost every week and offer five top columns every day. We have a Creative Commons license that allows free reproduction of our content (articles and columns from Plaza Pública), the only requirement is to place a link www.plazapublica.com.gt When it is online media, and when it is print media, cite our page and place our logo. This does not include articles provided to us by other media as a courtesy.
Plaza Pública was founded and is two-thirds funded by Rafael Landívar University; it is part of the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research. Since 2011, he has received funding from the Global Media Project of the Open Society Foundations in London. It also receives funding from the Dutch organization Hivos, the German Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and the EFE Foundation, allowing it to publish content from this prestigious Spanish news organization.
At Plaza Pública, we have alliances with Confidencial (Nicaragua), CIPER (Chile), A Pública (Brazil) and IDL-Reporteros (Peru). We also have cross-copy relationships with Verdad Abierta (Colombia), Revista Anfibia (Argentina), Temas del Sur (Argentina), Contrapunto (El Salvador) and Insight Crime (USA). We also have permission to reprint articles from La Silla Vacía (Colombia), Animal Político (Mexico), El Faro (El Salvador) and IPS Agency (Latin America).
