At the first press conference of the 37th FFHN – MFF, the Montenegrin film “Ponton’s Heart” by director Senad Šahmanović was presented, which opened the festival, as well as the selectors of the two competition sections – a feature film and a documentary “Vuk” Perovic and Vladimir Perovic.
According to CGNews, “Ponton Heart” is a story about love and emotions that is essential for this era. A man with slightly antisocial behavior and rude treatment of customers will fall in love with a rising young actress. The story of the film revolves around an old car, which is kept by the actress as a memory of her grandfather, which will bring the two young people closer together. Director Senad Sachmanovich said that the film was created in a short time and there is no better place to premiere it than the Herceg Novi Film Festival.
“We finished shooting in May, we worked very quickly, spent a lot of time on editing, post-production, the tasks of all creative people were complex. Not only Montenegro lacks romantic comedies, but also regional cinema lacks them, and we really need them. I liked that scenario, that concept written by Antonio, there are some scenes that are striking and unique, and on the other hand, it is a new genre that I wanted to do, in order to leave some difficult themes, some internal conditions. It is something completely different and I feel good about making this film, in addition to everything that comes after us”, says Shamanovich.
Film screenwriter Antonia Gabelić is well known to the audience for her TV series “Bitanga i princessa”.
“I have to admit that most of what I do is universal, I try to make the humour universal, my knowledge of Montenegrin society is through the media, prejudices, jokes and so on, but the home team adapts to that, it’s coloured by region and makes it funny for you, I feel through the audience that in some parts I’m not the clearest and that’s obviously recognised in your market. “As a writer I have an appreciation for the locals who are responsible for the language, pronunciation and phrases,” the screenwriter says.
The film stars Marija Labudović, Marko Janketić, Rade Šerbedžija, Stevan Vuković, Omar Bajramspahić, Mišo Obradović, Jadranka Mamić, Aleksandar Radulović and Dejan Đonović, who said that filming the film was very interesting, beautiful and relaxing, and they also enjoyed it because of the very humorous script.
“On the contrary, the director did not want to create obstacles for the actors, so we played with everything we knew and could do. As for the intimacy between the characters, it also spread to the set, this is how we felt and how we worked, we had a great time, it was great, just like when you do a play in the theater, when you have something to explore , then I’m almost sure that he will not go astray”, believes Jonovich.
The two selectors of the feature film “Vuk Perović” and the documentary “Vladimir Perović” appeared at the press conference.
Vuk Perovic said it was important to recognize new names and new creators from the region, who bring a new spirit and a new perspective to the whole film. As someone who has been involved in the whole story for all these years, we are working hard to strengthen the strength of Montenegrin film.
“This year we have seven productions, three of which are Montenegrin productions and four are co-productions, and we have three young directors coming here with their second films, Senad Šahmanović, Ivan Marinović and Nemanja Bečanović, so after these debuts they now have the opportunity to develop their careers, to talk about them as writers, to recognize their film language, which in some way shows that Montenegrin filmography is moving towards a more mature stage,” Perovic believes.
“You can’t impose your sometimes distorted taste on the audience, but you should share it with those who come to the Bissoukopia Hall or our terrace,” said documentary director Vladimir Perovich.
He points out that it is undesirable to offer an experimental documentary that only the author and his mother can understand.
“So, there is a compromise between not understanding the widest audience and understanding the dedicated audience, because the audience that comes to the festival is really dedicated. To compromise between what the audience can and wants to receive and my efforts to show the audience some new trends, methods, authors and a million new things, because documentary is developing faster than any other field of human activity, except digital cinema. The last 30 years have been a fantastic development,” concludes Vladimir Perović.
