Civil society formed a human chain in Feni to demand that those responsible for the loss of life and widespread destruction caused by floods in various parts of the country, including Feni, be brought to justice in the International Court of Justice and awarded compensation through the United Nations.

This was organised yesterday in the name of ‘We are Fenivasi’ in Sonapur area on Fenir-Chagalnaya road.

On placards of relief bags formed by human chains, they demanded the removal of all upstream dams, fair sharing of water, bringing responsible countries to justice, and compensation for climate change.

Convener of Bangladesh Conservation Union (BNCA) and Dean of Faculty of Science, Stanford University. Ahmed Kamruzzaman Majumdar said that such terrible scenes like this flood have never been seen in the history of Feni region in a hundred years. This terrible flood in Feni region has killed 64,001 cattle and 2.3 million 4,041 poultry alone. This has caused losses of about Rs 3.91 billion to the livestock industry. In his speech, he demanded the removal of dams on various upstream rivers, bringing all those responsible for illegal acts to justice in international courts, collecting compensation from those responsible, and ensuring that everyone affected by the floods gets compensation and climate justice is guaranteed.

Journalist Kefayet Shakeel said that in this flood, the water level of two floors has risen. Today, people have lost everything because of the flood of this conspiracy. The globalists are depriving us of our human rights by destroying water and air. Now, neighboring India is flooding us with political torrents again. The control of our water cannot be in the hands of others in any way. We hope that the international community will bring justice to this injustice of India.

Representatives of Bangladesh Conservation Union (BNCA), Bangladesh Environment Movement (Bapa), Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS), Youth for Climate Justice, Prayas, Green Mission Bangladesh and the public participated in the human chain. Environmental groups Initiative for Change and Rivers and Deltas Research Center (RDRC) agreed to the demands.
